The night I first read The Effect, I fell in love. Pulse racing, heart pounding, hands shaking—all the symptoms were there. From the start, I was stunned by this play’s depiction of mental illness. I had never encountered a work that portrayed depression with such honesty, empathy, and nuance. Working with just four actors on a piece that was personally important to us all made for a highly collaborative process and a deeply satisfying product.
