My production of Good People was staged alley-style, a move that required the audience to literally choose a side from the moment they entered the theater. Our stripped-down scenic design emphasized the class divide so central to the show leaving the characters from South Boston to grapple with set pieces before their scenes while the characters from the richer neighborhood of Chestnut Hill glided onstage to preset furniture. The seating configuration also made the audience constantly aware of their own presence in the space, forcing them to confront their own complicity in the events unfolding onstage.
